Next week we’re 9 years old! From an amazing start all those years ago at Xmas Steps to expanding across the country in recent years, we’ve come a long way.
To celebrate there are going to be lots of giveaways and exciting things across all our sites including a company wide Birthday Bash! Tickets have been flying out and so let’s take this as an opportunity to look at a few games that would suit the vibe of a party!
ONE answer
Got a big group? We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, Herd Mentality is a total crowd pleaser. A question is asked and it’s all about a matter of opinion, everyone answers and those with the majority answer get themselves a point. That would be enough for most people but there is a twist, if you are the only player to give a specific answer then you get the pink cow. Nice. Except you can’t win when you have it. Add to the fact that ‘Moo’ing at the slow answering players is encouraged and you’ve got yourself a classic.
It takes TWO
What if it’s just you and one other? Well something dexterity based is gonna get your heart racing and make you smile and there’s nothing quite like Kluster especially as there is a 2-player version too. Set up the string and split those magnets up then take turns placing them. Did any move together? If they did then take those ones back and be the first to get rid of yours to win. Too hard? Mix it up with the original game to make it easier. I mean, who doesn’t love playing with magnets?
THREE dimensions
This is Team3 and is perfect for any group divisible by three. The basic version is each trio is building a structure from a plan on a card. That’s far too easy though so limits are put in place. Player one can’t speak but can see the plan. Player two can speak but can’t touch the building bricks or see the plan. Player three can’t see but can build. Build in three minutes for a win or if playing in teams be the first to complete the challenge. It’s a manic and fun ride!
FOUR letter word
Oooo… cheeky! A word game where you can mess about with other people? This is Shenanigrams. It’s quick and fun and has an element of speed and (clearly by the name) shenanigans too. Scrabble players weep, you’re knowledge of 2-letter words will not help you now! It’s no longer about scoring words, just owning the words made on the table, get your tags out and win, unless the next player can replace one of yours in time.
High FIVE
Want something manic, then check out Happy Salmon. Everyone has a deck of 12 cards and to win all you have to do is discard all of them. Everyone flip their stack of cards over and find someone with the same card and perform the appropriate action together (including high five!) to discard that card. It’s that simple! Frantic and daft, just what a party should be all about.
SIX feet under
Let’s be a bit calmer now… trivia games are always great at a big gathering and Death by Coconuts has you betting on which of three things has killed the most people. Oooh… very morbid but also very intriguing. With a beautiful design and a few twists along the way this is bound to get you going ‘Really?’
SEVEN colours
Imagine making stuff with coloured cubes and you’ve basically got Block Party. One guesser a round draws a challenge card and the rules are set. All others choose an item from their card to build in the time given and GO! If the guesser doesn’t get it then others can steal, points for guessing right and for getting your build guessed and for meeting the challenge for the round. Colourful and creative it’s a veritable rainbow of a game.
EIGHT ball
Another little 2-player game for those in a smaller group and that’s Carooka. Basically this is pool on a lazy susan where you flick discs rather than line up balls. I mean, that’s it! The freedom of playing pool without having to leave your seat? Amazing.
NINE years old!
